IRDAI vide ref no. F. No. IRDAI/HLT/CIR/MISC/123/06/2023 dated June 8, 2023 has issued a Circular on “Creation of facility to capture Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number of proposers”.
ABHA has been developed as part of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission which is a 14 digit number that can be used to access and digitally share one’s health records with prior consent. ABHA will help to identify the insured in a digital environment and facilitate seamless healthcare and insurance service delivery.
The Authority has advised all insurers to ensure/ carry out the following:
- Provide facility in the proposal form (including online forms) to capture ABHA number of proposed customers and obtain their consent for sharing medical records with insurers/TPA through ABHA;
- Facilitate proposer in creating ABHA number through Agents/Intermediaries and for existing policyholders obtain/help to create ABHA during renewals;
- Place message on the its website encouraging the existing customers to register for ABHA and provide a link for registration.
