IRDAI vide Circular bearing reference number: IRDA/NL/CIR/MISC/183/10/2023 dated October 18, 2023 issued an advisory on Insurance claims relating to floods in Sikkim.
The major highlights of the Circular are as follows:
The Authority has advised all general and standalone health insurance companies to deply resources to ensure following service responses immidiately:
1. Nominate a Senior Executive to act as the Nodal Claims Officer, with communication to the Chief Secretary of the state and designate District Claims Service Head at the district level to oversee the claims. Their contact details to be publicized through website and other media.
2. Insurers to activate 24×7 helpline to respond / assist claimants and create awareness duly highlighting the measures taken for speedy disposal of claims.
3. Setting up Special Claims Desks at District level with adequate delegated Claims Settlement Teams for speedy disposal of claims, including release of on-account interim payments, where applicable.
4. Arranging immediate survey of claims by engaging adequate number of surveyors and loss assessors.
5. Digital processes be adopted for communication of claims including its assessment. Only necessary claim documents be insisted upon to ensure timely settlement of claims.
6. Submit claims information in the prescribed format on a weekly basis, for a month.
